If you're a diver seeking an unforgettable marine experience, this program in Lombok is your chance to explore the stunning underwater world while contributing to marine conservation. You’ll have the opportunity to witness iconic marine species like marine turtles, reef sharks, and various colorful fish species, while also learning simple coral restoration techniques firsthand.

Through innovative methods like micro-fragmentation and assisted evolution, you’ll learn how to increase coral resilience against environmental threats. This not only helps preserve Lombok’s diverse marine life but also ensures the sustainability of its underwater ecosystems for future generations.

In collaboration with the Indonesia Biru Foundation, you will participate in coral reef monitoring, understanding all the different components it has as an ecosystem. Despite corals being a keystone species, they are not the only players in our reefs. By joining this program, you'll become part of a community dedicated to protecting Lombok's marine biodiversity and promoting sustainable diving practices.

This course is suitable for individuals from all backgrounds, providing the opportunity to learn how to monitor and conserve various marine species within coral reefs while understanding their ecological roles and functions. Program Details

Activities & Training

This program will immerse you in the vital work of preserving marine ecosystems. Through engaging lectures, hands-on experiences, and dives, you'll gain valuable skills while contributing to coral reef conservation efforts.

You'll start with lectures on coral reef restoration and tank systems, followed by a dive to witness coral restoration efforts firsthand. After learning coral reef monitoring techniques, you'll delve into lab work, where you'll propagate corals and prepare for coral planting dives, deepening your understanding of marine ecology.

Beyond coral reefs, you'll explore mangrove forests at Cemare and actively participate in restoration activities. Mangroves are crucial for their connectivity with coral reefs, providing essential habitats and serving as nurseries for marine life. At Lombok Insani School, you'll engage in educational tasks, helping to raise awareness of the marine environment and how to protect it.

You'll also enjoy diving in the Gili Islands, unwinding and appreciating underwater beauty. Depart with a renewed dedication to coral reef and mangrove conservation.

Location

What is around?

Located in the north-west of Lombok island are the three islets known as Gili islands, fringed by white beaches and floating in a turquoise sea.

Diving sites include Shark Point, Sunset Reef, Turtle Heaven, Han’s Reef, Sekotong and North-East Lombok. Biorock is a particularly suitable location for night dives.

Sama Sama raggae bar, located in Gili, has live reggae music and a “lava bar”. The city of Kuta is famous for its beaches and as a popular surf destination, and Mataram is recommended for shopping and to visit the fish market.

Mount Rinjani is an active volcano located in the north of the island with a crescent shaped lake situated within the mountain. Rinjani is part of a national park and takes about 3 days of trekking to visit.

How to get there?

Fly into Lombok International Airport, from there you will be picked up by a driver from the local team. Alternatively, you can fly to Bali and then take the ferry across to Lombok where you will also be picked up by a driver from the local team.

  2. PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent) OR contact us if you would like to obtain your certification three days
